Some Words Between Us

Hello Grafted In Readers,,Today Is Tuesday, October 21 in my corner of blog land.

It's a cool October day, partly sunny, a bit breezy, but does feel like Autumn here in North America.

Did you know that October 16 is designation as National Dictionary Day?

Two of my online favorite dictionaries are Cambridge and Collins, each a UK publication.

I do have high regard for both the Merriam Webster Dictionary and the site, dictionary.com.

Even though the day was designed to remember dictionary creator, Noah Webster from the nineteenth century, Merriam Webster is not a cousin, brother, uncle or parent to Noah Webster. Here's the reason according to Google:

"Merriam-Webster" refers to a company founded by brothers George and Charles Merriam, not one person. The company, originally named G. & C. Merriam Co., bought the rights to Noah Webster's dictionary after his death in 1843 and has published subsequent editions under the Merriam-Webster name, which became the official name of the company in 1982. Noah Webster was a lexicographer who authored the first truly American dictionary in 1806 and his famous "American Dictionary of the English Language" in 1828.
