In The Summertime (pop song, Donovan, '60s)

Happy Quincentennial America
Hello Grafted In Reader,
Today is June 29, 2026 in my corner of blog land. Outside, summer is in full force with bugs, flies, nighttime mosquitos, chirping birds, children at play at a nearby park, The World Cup on television, baseball of course, romance and grilled dishes.
I was brought back to a time in my life by the following observation by one Paula Hawkins. She writes for Electric Literature, and is voicing the praise of author, Emily Ruskovich.
This post here, our visit, was inspired by the following:
I grew up a long way from the northwestern United States, described so vividly in Ruskovich’s writing, and yet these stories stirred in me a fierce nostalgia for my childhood, for the boredom of long, empty afternoons in a time before the internet and 24-hour television, and for the self-reliance and imagination those afternoons demanded.
The two songs appropriate for this time of year are by the singer, Donovan. Sunshine Came Softly, and the title for which this post is derived. Listen to each on YouTube and you may catch Summer fever complete with A.C.

I have plenty of notes, short in length, for your perusal. They highlight my life doings for reading, writing, thinking, and connecting.
Until our next visit, consider looking up my titles in the forthcoming Smashwords Summer/Winter sale through July.
For ninety-nine cents you may have one of my three EBooks:
- Homecoming: A Memoir, David C. Russell
- From my Red Chair: A Short Story Collection, David C. Russell
Human Being Human Doing, David C. Russell

May the Lord continue to bless and keep us. G-d hasn't left the room, our side, our life, our moments be they joy-filled, ordinary, dull, simply unwelcomed.
