Repost: What Are We Singing

What Are We Singing, What are You Proclaiming

by David Russell

Within days many North Americans will sing:

-Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel."
-Oh Little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie."
-"While Shepherds watch their flocks by night."
"Silent night, holy night, all is calm all is bright."
"Do you hear what I hear?"
"Good Christian Men (friends) Rejoice."
"Away in the manger, no crib for a bed."

Meantime, at present, an article dated November 02, 2015, reports some 1.77 million people live in poverty in Israel, of them more than 850,000 children according to an "Alternative Poverty Report" published by the non-profit organization Latet. (See www.haaretz.com)
Then, oppression under Roman rule described life and times in Israel.
All things considered: The music and lyric of Handel's Messiah may best reflect the picture of who Yeshua of Nazaret is and was.

Over a plate of holiday goodies, - if you profess Catholicism or Christianity, how will you answer the following proposal?
Note: Following cited from www.bereansonline.org; Rumination 11.

-They changed Messiah's religion
-They changed Messiah's looks
-They changed Messiah's language
-They forgot that Messiah's brothers should be able to recognize Him far better than any pagan...

"A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher."
(Luke chapter 6).

In the minds and written commentaries, prophets, priests and pastors identify Israel as Palestine; not Holy Scripture. Today public prayer disguise the edict in Psalms to pray for the peace of Jerusalem but roll it all into The Middle East. Moreover, prophets, priests and pastors would rather appear to adhere to the Roman Emperor Hadrian, than the writ of Scripture calling Israel proper, Palestine.

The big historic clincher, it has been contended without Hanukkah, there would likely be no Christmas.
In conclusion:
Seasons' greetings!
-Happy Hanukkah, Feast of Lights, Dedication to Adonai.
